An overview of how implants are placed
Implant treatment is not a single appointment but a planned sequence designed around biology — specifically, the time the bone needs to grip the implant. Understanding the stages removes most of the anxiety, because it shows that the long part of the timeline is simply waiting for healing, not repeated surgery. The surgery itself is minor and done under local anaesthetic.
Step by step
Consultation & 3D scan
Examination, medical history and a CBCT scan to map bone, nerves and sinuses. The treatment plan and quote are produced here — often remotely before travel.
Preparation (if needed)
Any failing teeth are removed and, where bone is insufficient, a graft or sinus lift is performed. Healing time depends on the procedure.
Implant placement
Under local anaesthetic, the titanium implant is placed into the jaw. The procedure is typically painless and takes around 30–60 minutes per implant.
Osseointegration
The bone fuses to the implant over roughly 3–6 months. A temporary tooth or denture can often be worn meanwhile; some cases allow immediate temporary teeth.
Abutment & impressions
Once integrated, the abutment is fitted and impressions or digital scans are taken so the final crown or bridge can be made to fit precisely.
Final restoration
The custom crown, bridge or denture is fitted and the bite checked. The result is a permanent, natural-looking tooth.
Same-day and immediate implants
"Teeth in a day" or immediate-loading protocols fit a temporary fixed bridge onto the implants on the day of surgery, so you never leave without teeth. This is most common in full-arch All-on-4 cases, where the four implants provide enough combined stability to support a temporary arch immediately. The final, definitive teeth are made after osseointegration. Immediate single implants are also possible in the right conditions, but not every case qualifies — adequate bone and good initial stability are essential.
How the timeline works for treatment abroad
For UK patients travelling to Turkey, treatment is usually arranged to minimise trips. A typical plan is one visit for placement (with same-day temporaries where possible) and a second, shorter visit a few months later for the final restoration — though many full-arch cases are completed in a single longer stay. The clinic plans this around the CBCT scan, which is why a remote assessment beforehand matters. Taki Dent structures the timeline and travel around your case and coordinates aftercare with your UK dentist. Next, see what recovery and aftercare involve.
